Sustainability Gains Momentum in Indian Fashion Industry in 2025

India’s fashion industry embracing sustainability, led by a $3.5B government push and eco-conscious brands like Doodlage and B Label.

In 2025, India’s fashion sector made notable strides towards sustainability, driven by both government initiatives and innovative startups. At Bharat Tex 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a $3.5 billion plan to transform India into a zero-waste fashion hub, aiming to generate over 100,000 jobs through sustainable manufacturing and textile recycling.

On the ground, brands like B Label by BOHECO and Doodlage led the way by using hemp and upcycled textile waste to create eco-friendly garments. Initiatives such as the Circular Design Challenge, organized by R|Elan and the United Nations in India, spotlighted emerging designers integrating recycled materials and circular fashion principles into their work.

These developments mark a significant shift in India’s fashion landscape, signaling increased industry commitment to environmental responsibility and ethical production.
